Differential Pressure based Flowmeters

Differential pressure used to determine the flow rate is one of the oldest and widely used technique of flow measurement.

Differential pressure is generated by creating obstruction to the moving flow. The pressure difference created is measured through pressure taps provided on upstream and downstream side of obstruction. This differential pressure can be measured using devices like manometer or DP transmitter. Based on the differential pressure value, the flow rate is calculated.

Flow nozzles

Flow nozzles are especially used for flow measurement or steam service which is normally under high temperature and pressure. Flow nozzles are normally of two types Long radius and ISA 1932.

Flow nozzles are available in sizes from 25 to 600 mm. The pressure tapping is either D, D/2, Corner or throat tap.

Averaging Pitot tubes (Eubar)

Averaging pitot tubes offer lowest pressure drop amongst all DP elements and hence are used for applications where static pressure is less or when high pressure drops are not acceptable.
It consists of a diamond shape sensor which is inserted in a pipeline or a duct. The sensor has holes at equal distance along its length on upstream side and on downstream side for pressure sensing.
It is available from 50 to 2000 mm length. It is available in fixed or in retractable type for online withdrawal of sensor.

Venturi

Venturi tube flowmeters are used for flow measurement where higher pressure drop is not acceptable.
Venturi tube design consists of inlet and outlet cones, a throat and cylinder. Pressure tap is located on throat and inlet cylinder.
Venturi tube is available from 50 mm to 2000 mm size. They are either machined (up to 8”) or fabricated.

V cone Flowmeters (Eurekone)

V cone flowmeters are comparatively new addition to DP flow element family. It consists of a cone inserted in a flow stream, which creates a differential pressure. It is available from 20 mm to 200 mm line size.
Eurekone flowmeter can be used for liquid/Gases/ steam or slurry service. The pressure drop is low and requirement of straight lengths are minimum.
